Higlett, George Allen – Satirical pamphlets and leaflets (1912 onwards) set of ca. 67 (!) booklets plus the Bibliography written by Gavin Fryer (1997, 89 pages). All in all in good condition and preserved in two bibliophile de-luxe boxes. Higlett illustrated his humurous and sometimes critical satirical texts with genuine (!) stamps and essays, which sometimes led to problems when he was not able to gather enough examples for his complete edition. So some essays were issued in very small number only (ca. 30, one about Revenues only 12). The value of all stamps and essays was estimated at several thousands GBP 13 years ago. a good number of brochures are signed by Higlett. An extremely rare and possibly the most complete set, an interesting offer of this unusual material ex Gavin Fryer. Estimate: 4,000 Euro

Legrand, A. (Dr. Magnus): Manuel de l'amateur de timbres (1894), 4 + 396 pages, bibliphile hardcover in good condition. Included is some interesting correspondance between Bjäringer and Jean Storch! PLUS: (Legrand, A.) Congrès international des timbrophiles. Comte-rendu de la première session, Paris 1878 (Neuilly 1880). 404 pages, hardcover (originally published in three parts during 1879/80 with coloured paper wrapper). Limited edition of 200 copies (this is No. 80). With ex libris Pedro Monge y Pineda. – This congress was the first philatelic congress in the history of philately. The ‘Fathers of Philately’ attending the Congress in Paris were: Jaques Amable Legrand, Philipp de Ferrari, Arthur Maury, Frederick Adolphus Philbrick, Maitland Burnett, Friedrich Andreas Breitfuss and John Kerr Tiffany. A very rare documentation. Estimate: 200 Euro
Legrand, Dr. Jacques Amable (Dr. Magnus): Essai sur les Filigranes et les Papiers employés à la fabricaion des Timbres-Poste (2nd edition, publ. by Pierre Mahé 1867). 60 pages, appendix 4 pages, 527 copies printed. Paper wrapper. Nearly good condition. Mahé and Dr. Legrand worked together very closely in the early years of the 1860s. Thus both invented the first perforation gauge with the growing interest in different perforations, but Legrand turned to watermarks as early as 1865. Then the first edition of his later study was published as series of articles in “Le Timbrophile” from April to July, 1865. The brochure by “Dr. Magnus” on watermarks is the first monograph on a specialised philatelic subject and was an inspiration for Alfred Moschkau later to write about this topic himself. Reinheimer, A.: Kurzgefasste Beschreibung der Essays-Sammlung von Martin Schroeder, Leipzig (German book version 1903). A legendary rare work, which offers 438 essays from various European countries on 58 pages of text, all of which are then individually illustrated on 72 single photo plates in a cassette made for Reinheimer and Schroeder. In good condition, only a few copies of this version are known to exist. PLUS: Colson, Warren H.: Postage Stamps and their Collection (1907). 98 pages incl. photo-plates, hardcover. The binding is partly defective, content average condition; PLUS: Peckitt, W. H.: The Avery Collection (1909), 59 pages, softcover (the cover with little patina, content is very good). Rothschild; Arthur de: Histoire de la Poste aux Lettres (1st edition, Paris 1873), 335 pages, half leather bound; PLUS: 4th edition 1879 in large format, 423 pages, half leather bound. Both in good to excellent condition. Especially this 4th and last edition is very rare. – Arthur de Rothschild (1852–1904) who managed the Paris branch of the family financial empire, also formed a large and valuable collection which he later sold to Philipp de Ferrari in 1893. Co-founder of the “Société Française de Timbrologie”, he also became the first president. The “Société Française de Timbrologie” came to life on December 5, 1874 to become the second most important club in Europe, after The Philatelic Society, London (later The Royal Philatelic Society London). Prominent French ‘Fathers of Philately’ included Arthur Maury, Oscar Berger-Levrault, the Caillebotte brothers, Paul Mirabaud and Jacques Amable Legrand. – Estimate: 500 Euro
Schubert, G. W.: Der Führer im Labyrinthe der bisher erschienenen Briefmarken aller Länder oder specielles Verzeichniß der auf den Briefmarken und Couverts vorkommenden Sinnbilder, Portraits und anderer Gebilde, Allegorien, Wappen, (verdeutschter) fremdländischer Werthbezeichnungen, der auf Marken repräsentirten Landeswappen, ingleichen der vom Jahre 1865 ab bis mit 1866 neu emitirten Marken etc. nebst anderen einschlagenden Notizen, Behufs leichterer Erkennung und sicherer Einschaltung derselben in die Markensammlungen (Dresden 1867). 48 pages, without cover (another copy is registered in the famous Diena library, – also without cover).
