TAUROGGEN (Lithuania): 10 kopeck brown and blue, clear at lower left, otherwise good to mostly large margins, tied by boxed "TAUROGEN 28 APR.1858" to letter sheet to Riga. The letter slight age wear, still very fine. Certificate Buchsbayew (2017)

TAUROGGEN (Lithuania): 10 kopeck brown and blue, large margins, tied by dotted oval "9" to lettersheet with reverse side boxed "TAUROGEN 20 JULY.1858" and oval handstamp "SPEDITIONS-GESCHÄFT JOHN G. KNIEP/TAUROGGEN", to Riga, with arrival mark. Supposed to origin from (most likely) German soil and forwarded. Just 13 No.1-entires have been recorded with dotted oval (border post office) cancellations and just four similar entires with the Kniep handstamp. Certificate Mikulski (1986, not mentioning forwarder)

5 k. black/lilac and 1875 8 k. grey/carmine-rose, the former in horizontal strip of three and the later as a pair, fresh colours, neatly tied by cds “DYLITSK P(ostal) S(tation) 4 OCT. 1878” to registered envelope to Prag, framed “ZAKAZNOE” and German red label for foreign registration mail, reverse departure and arrival cds, three intact wax seals, 5 k. at top with insignificant corner damage, still very fine. A delightful and most unusual combination franking making up the 31 kopek rate

30 k. rose/green and 1 k. black/yellow, fresh colours, each tied by cds “VILNA 12 JUL. 1875” to registered envelope to Königsberg with framed “ZAKAZNOE” and German red label for foreign registration mail, reverse arrival cds, fine. An extremely scarce early registered UPU mail from Russia and an early use of the German label, with new rates coming into force on 19th June 1875 (second weight step 16 k. plus 10 k. registration plus 5 k. international receipt)

“ORANI-LAGER -7 7 13” ORANI CAMP cds. on 3 k., repeated alongside, to postcard to St Petersburg, minor aging, still fine and scarce. Camp Orani was located in the Vilnius region and was home to some infantry regiments

“VILNA TEMP(ERORY) P. O. V LAGER 16 May 1892” VILNA MILITARY CAMP special cds. on 20 k. registered postal stationery envelope to Roma with reverse arrival cds. “ROMA 6 -92”, minor imperfections no detracting, still fine. Extremely rare and the earliest date of usage recorded for this camp
