1853, 9 centesimi light blue, in combination with Modena 1852, 5 cents green, with dot after figure, both of fine colour and with good to mostly large margins, tied to first page of newspaper "Messaggere di Modena" of October 24, 1853. A rare and most attractive complementary mixed franking, of which only very few examples have been recorded. Certificate Sorani (2002)
After the revolutions of 1848 Austria and a couple of northern Italian states instituted a tax to be collected on incoming foreign newspapers to discourage their import.

1859, ½ Bajocchi on yellow, vertical pair, slightly touched at top, otherwise clear to large margins, with parts of two neighbours stamps at left, tied by grid to reverse of pricelist from "FAENZA 30 OTT. 59" to Russi. The entire was mailed unfranked, taxed upon arrival and stamps applied on reverse as receipt. Signed Alberto Diena and Vaccari.

This item was sent by Ceylon authorities to the UPU at Berne as evidence in its complaint against Italy, sending reply cards to non-UPU-members. A unique item from the Ex-UPU-archive.

1858, Franz Joseph 5 Sld. rot, farbfrisch, sauber mit EKr. “PADOVA 2 11” auf kleiner Faltbriefhülle nach Bagna Cavallo in der Provinz Ravenna, dort nicht zustellbar, eine urspünglich rotierte Nachtaxe gestrichen, handschriftlicher Vermerk "Pagato importo" angebracht und mit Sardinien 20C. blau frankiert und ab “BAGNA CAVALLO 4 NOV 60” retour gesandt, vorderseitig Ra2 “P Stato Pontificio”, rückseitig Transit- und Ankunftsstempel von Padova, die 5 Sld. durch Randklebung etwas beschädigt, ein sehr attraktiver und seltener Brief, Fotoatteste Bottachi (2023) und Ferchenbauer (2025)

"BERGAMO 27/7" (1859), EKr., klar auf waagerechtem Paar Sardinien 10 Centesimi, auf Briefhülle nach Mailand. Der rechte Wert kleiner Kratzer, sonst einwandfrei. Ein seltener Brief während des Befreiungskrieges. (Sassone 13 Punkte)
"CASALPUS/TERLENGO 16. APR.E", L3, auf 1858, 5 Soldi und (rückseitig geklebt) 10 Soldi, beide Type I, die 10 Soldi zusätzlich entwertet durch L1 "RACCOMANDATA", auf recommandiertem Faltbrief nach Mailand. Sehr selten und attraktiv. (Sassone R1)
"MANTOVA", Ra ohne Datum, jeweils sauber abgeschlagen als zusätzliche Entwertung auf Österreich Maschinenpapier 6 Kreuzer braun und 9 Kreuzer blau, mit EKr. "OLMÜTZ 13/5" Vorder- bzw. rückseitig auf eingeschriebener Briefhülle (unterer Teil der Vorderseite und 2 Seitenklappen fehlend), nach Modena und offensichtlich mehrfach nach-bzw. zurückgesandt mit 4 Ankunftsstempeln von Molina zwischen dem 17. Mai und 14. Juli. Ein – trotz der Beschädigung – interessanter und außerordentlich seltener Brief mit auf Marken äußerst seltenem Stempel. Mehrfach signiert, Fotoattest the Alberto Diena (1974) Raybaudi (1976) und Ferchenbauer (2011)
Grande frammento affrancato per 9 Kr. (Austria) ed un 6 Kr. al verso diretto a Modena, annullato in transito con il bollo in cartella di “Mantova” normalmente usato per le ricevute. Inusuale.
