1879/1933, group of 13 used and one unused postal stationery cards, including Netherlands Indies unused double card with advertising printing, early stationery cards from Curacao, Netherlands Indies and Suriname (some with handstamped surcharges), Netherlands Indies reply card 5 cent with additional franking 2½ cent from “KJOPENHAVN 23.4.(90)”, mostly fine

1877, postcard "12 ½ cent" on 15 cents grey, legitimately used with clear c.d.s. "PARAMARIBO 4/5 1877" to Cologne, Germany with manuscript receiving note. Little thins on reverse, otherwise very fine. In used condition an exceedingly rare card and the earliest recorded (4th day after issue). Certificate v.d.Vlist (2009)

1886, 10 oere rose, tied by c.d.s. "NORDLANDS POSTEXP. 15/VIII.91" to Nordcap picture postcard, mailed to Melbourne, Victoria, here taxed and 2 copies of postage due 5 d. applied, cancelled by pencil, with adjacent "T10" oval handstamp. According to the Italian & Australian treaty, the postage for the card was 60 c., deduction of paid 10 c. = 50 c., which was doubled  and converted to 10 d.

1877/78, Posthorn 60 öre blue, tied by c.d.s. "HAMMERFEST 16.VII.87" to illustrated Nordcap - envelope of 'SS SVERRE SIGURDSSON' to Melbourne, Australia, with transit mark of Brindisi and arrival mark. Light transportation marks. A very unusual destination and Special Convention rate (“Italian-Australasian Treaty) of 60 øre to Australia through Italy). Rare.

1906, die proof for a proposed 'reply stamps' gutter pair 'Crown above posthorn' 20 öre + 20 öre blue on carton (116:97mm), presented at the UPU-Congress of Rome in 1906. Very rare. Certificate Finn Aune (1999)

1909, Haakon 2 kronor rose, 10 copies, together with Posthorn 30 öre olive-gray, tied by cs. “KRISTIANIA 1 I 15” to registered parcel tag with printed adress “On His Britannic Majesty's Service/ His Majesty's Principle Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs…” to London. One stamp slightly defictive, where applied over the edge, otherwise fine. An enourmeously high franking, thought to be unique.

1941, 700th anniversary of the death of Snorri Sturluson 20 öre and 60 öre, in combination with Victory overprint issue 5 öre, neatly tied by cds. “OSLO 6.12.41” to airmail cover to USA with German censor mark “Ab”, two-line “Zurück Postverkehr eingestellt” and Norwegian “Retur Postsambandet brutt”. A fine example of the postal service suspension to USA after the Japanese attack on Pearl Habor on December 7th 1941

1876/1945, 10 covers, cards and postal stationery cards including unused International Money Order, with among others 1877 5 öre blue on printed matter to Portugal, 1886 double card “Militzaert Tjestebrevkort” used and 1940 long format envelope with German censor mark “APNET VED TYSK CENSOR” on reverse, mostly fine

1919, Krakow Provisional Overprint 15 heller, together with unoverprinted 5 heller, tied by adapted blingual "KRAKOW 20.II.19" to money order from "TRZEBINIA 19.II.19". Fine and scarce. 

1867/70, Luis perforated, 10 reis orange, tied by dotted numeral "1" with adjacent c.d.s. "LISBOA 15/11 1868" to complete printed matter, privately carried from Buenos Ayres (stamp applied over the Argentine hand-stamped return address ), to Barcelone. A very fine and scarce transatlantic printed matter. Certificate Nucleo Filatelico (1997)

1871/76, Luis 80 reis orange, tied by barred oval "100" with adjacent oval "OVAR", to lettersheet, endorsed “por Vapor ‘Jerome’”, to Para, Brazil, with reverse side c.d.s. "CORREIO DE LISBOA 22 JAN 77". The stamp with unobtrusive corner crease, otherwise fine. A rare rate which was valid only during the year before Brazil's UPU membership and only for mail carried on Portuguese or private ships.

1871/76, Luis 80 reis orange, 2 copies, tied by barred oval "1" with adjacent c.d.s. "LISBOA 15/12 1876", to entire letter with frontside sender's mark and content from Bilbao, Spain, to Buenos Ayres, Argentina. A scarce franking.

Under Brazilian-Portuguese Treaty, a special rate of 80 réis to Brazil and then special rate of 80 réis to Argentina from Brazil.

1871/76, Luis 300 reis lilac on glazed paper, together with 1887, 20 reis rose, tied to open out linen envelope with declared value of 200 francs and orange label "Valor declarado" from "LISBOA 10 NOV 91" to Paris with transit- and arrival marks. A fine and scarce entire.

1875/98, nine covers and mostly used postal stationeries including two cards from the Portuguese colonies, 1898 unfranked official cover from St. Vicente, postal stationery envelope 1891 from Lisbon to Gibraltar and cancelled upon arrival (special Iberian Postal Union rate), card to Buenos Ayres, etc., mixed condition

1870, 100 reis lilac, tied by neat oval "PROVINCIA DE ANGOLA 1 SET. 88" to cover via Lisbon to London, with transit- and arrival marks. Fine and rare.

1898/1903, King Carlos 50 reis, horizontal pair, used on envelope to Sommerset, Cape Colony, pasted over with British “V.R. OPENED UNDER MARTIAL LAW” pink censor label, adjacent "RETURNED LETTER OFFICE NATAL 6 3 00", boxed violet "STOPPED BY CENSOR/RETURN TO SENDER" and blue framed “Retourne a lenvoveur / levovide ao remettente”. A fine and rare cover during the Boer War.

1866, Coat of Arms 1 kopek black/yellow on vertically laid paper, two singles, with 3 kopek black/green on horizontally paid paper, all of fresh colours, making up the correct 5 kopek rate and tied by cds “REVEL 12 FEV. 1872” to official postal formula card to Moscow, adjacent railway travelling post office “39-40” and arrival cds “MOSCOW 14 FEVR. 1872”, fine. Rare early use of the newly introduced formula cards

Except for a few short perforations on the 3 kopek and a few negligible toned spots on the envelope, in very fine condition. A very scarce early registered franking to a foreign destination

1908, 10 kopek dark blue, 35 kopek lilac brown/green and 1 ruble brown/sienna/orange-red, all tied by “LODZ 13.10.11” to reverse of a German parcel card with Germania 20 pfennig blue and Representative 2 marks dark blue with cds “CHEMNITZ 27 9 11”, one stamp missing on front, some tear and minor imperfections, still an attractive and most unusual mixed franking

1870/82, interesting assembly of seven covers and cards, displaying a fine range of rates and usages, some better items with 1875 2 kopek printed matter rate to Italy, 5 kopek postal stationery card used at the newly introduced UPU 4 kopek rate with “ST PETERSBURG 17 AUG. 1875”, better destination with Sweden, etc, some occasional faults, overall in good condition

1872, Postal stationery card 5 kopek green, used with cds “PLODSK 8 1875”, addressed to Warsaw with adjacent arrival cds “WARSAWA 7 AUG. 1875”, large blue framed “1875” (ca 47:26 mm), allegedly applied locally at departure to indicate the application of the new UPU tariff of 4 kopek, light vertical archival crease, otherwise fine

Following the implementation of the UPU tariff of 19th June 1875 (4 kopek for both domestic and international rate), the previous 5 kopek stationery cards kept on being sold at the counter and used provisionally at the new tariff. Several local post offices are known to have amended the indicium to reflect the rate change. Reference: Epstein, Postal Stationery of Russia and its Dependencies, Vol I, page 36

1872, 1 kopek brown and 5 kopek blue, two of each, fresh colours, tied on transit by Russian post office blue cds “ALEXANDRETTA”, repeated on reverse, and an additional single pen strike, to commercial envelope from Mersina to Aleppo, handed over on transit to the Ottoman post with Turkey 1876 Duloz 1 piaster yellow, strip of five and single, paying the domestic rate and cancelled with negative seal; one adhesive folded in half on the edge of the envelope and a few short perforations, still fine. A rare and appealing mixed franking

1872, 5 kopek blue, tied by blue cds “KONST-NOPOLSK FEV 74” with an additional strike alongside, to small envelope (with content) to Mitylene, originally posted at Odessa with Russia 3 kopek black/green and 10 kopek brown/blue paying the correct 13 kopek rate to Turkey via Russian steamship up to Constantinople, the last leg to Mitylene being paid by the Russian Levant adhesive. The 5 kopek with light vertical crease, 10 kopek shortened perforations on the right side and the envelope with part of back flap missing, still fine. An attractive colourfull mixed franking and most unusual Levant usage

1876, “8" on 10 kopek carmine/green, fresh colours and good perforations, neatly tied by cds “KONSTANTIN 15 JUNE (18)78” to letter sheet with content to Taganrog, reverse transit via Odessa and arrival cds “TAGANROG 20 June 1878”, fine and rare usage of the provisional issue correctly paying the 8 kopek rate

1879, 7 kopek on 10 kopek carmine/green, Type II in black, tied by cds “CONSTANTINOPLE 21 JUL 1880” to printed commercial envelope to Odessa; on reverse arrival cds “ODESSA 23 NOV 1880”. The envelope with minor peripheral wear and aging, not distracting. Fine and very rare. Signed Romeko and certificate Eisold BPP (2000)

1884, 1 kopek orange, Second Printing, a vertical block of six of fresh colours and good perforations, used with cds “ROPIT AFON 15 OCT 1900” to reverse of an envelope to Mount Athos, originally posted at Samara with Russia 7 kopek blue paying the domestic rate, endorsed on front “via Odessa and Konstantinople” with all appropriate transit cds, taxed “T”, envelope opened on two sides, fine. A very scarce usage

1869/78, Milan 15 para orange, vertical pair, tied by c.d.s. "BEOGRAD 3 VII"(1875) to entire letter to Vienna, with arrival mark. A fine and scarce franking. Special rate from Serbia to Austria, commenced on 1 July 1875.

1869/80, Milan 40 paras lilac, horizontal pair, tied by blue bilingual cds. "BELGRAD 4 APR 1878" to small registered mourning cover to Florence, Italy, with transit mark of Vienna. Very fine and scarce.

1851, Isabella  6 cuartos black, horizontal block of 12, deep fresh colour, little abrasion at lower left, otherwise clear to large margins, tied by spider cancel with adjacent “VICH CATALUNA 11 JUL 1851” to large cover to Barcelona, with arrival mark. Some usual light creasing. The largest recorded block and most important item of this stamp. Certificate Jose Soler AIEP (2017).
