An extremely scarce early registered UPU mail from Russia and an early use of the German label, with new rates coming into force on 19th June 1875 (second weight step 16 k. plus 10 k. registration plus 5 k. international receipt)

1868, 30 k. rose/green with 1866 1 k. black/yellow (2), tied by cds “ST PETERSBOURG 24 1 1875” to registered envelope to Würzburg, Bavaria, endorsed “2” (2nd weight step) with alongside late use of the Russian framed “REKOMENDAVO”, German red register label “Eingeschrieben. N°” and red crayon “30” (credit to Germany, 5 kopek times two equalling 30 pfennig). The envelope with a  light vertical crease, some minor soiling and wear, still fine. A very scarce 32 kopek franking, enhanced by the first month of use of both the German register label and the new Pfennig/Mark currency

1875, 2 k. black/red and 1884 2 k. olive green, together with additional franking paying the correct 14 kopek rate and tied by cds “ST PETERSBURG 27 APR. 1884” to reverse of registered envelope to Braunschweig, red framed registration mark “R St. Pétersbourg Russie.” and reverse arrival cds “BRAUNSCHWEIG 11 5”, minor imperfections of no importance, still fine. A rare mixed franking of the same facial value from two different issues, enhanced by the very early usage of the 2 kopek olive green

1884, Coat of Arms 3,50 r. black/yellowish grey and 7 r. black/yellow-orange, the two values of fresh colours and with excellent embossing, very large part original gum, very fine. A very scarce set

PETERBURG 11 DEC 1891” to reverse of a registered envelope to Nagasaki, Japan, addressed to the “care of the Russian Consul, Imperial Russian frigate staff surgeon”, endorsed on front “Via Brindisi”, reverse transit cds “HONG KONG FE 11 92” and arrival mark “NAGASAKI 6 FEB 1892 JAPAN”, very fine and most unusual, in addition two registered covers from Vladivostok to either Hakodate or Nagasaki. 1899, Empress Maria advertising postal stationery lettersheet 5 k. light lilac, Serie # 5, used with additional franking on reverse with “MOSCOW TELEGRAPH 8 MAY 1900” and alongside registration label, sent to Apolda, Germany, reverse arrival mark, very fine and scarce usage

“FRAUENBURG” cds in blue, fair strike on 1868 10 k. brown/blue to envelope to Moscow, blue dispatch cds repeated on reverse with arrival cds “MOSCOW 15 JUNE 1872”, very fine

1863, Coat of Arms 5 k. black/blue together with Russia 1866 1 k. black/yellow horizontal pair, fresh colours, tied by cds “S. PETERBURG 1 AOUT 1881” to 7 k. on 10 k. brown postal stationery envelope to London, reverse departure repeated and arrival faint oval mark “REGISTERED …”, the franking paying the correct 14 kopek rate (tariff of 20 March 1879). The envelope roughly opened, slight peripheral toning and back flap missing, otherwise very fine. A very scarce usage, from the famous Breitfuss correspondence, certificate Citerne BPP (2025)

1919, OKCA 5 k., printed on creamy paper with text on reverse, wihtout gum, possibly a printer´s trial, very fine and unusual

1921, 10 k. blue/red/black and two single stamps 15 k. red tied by cds. “BLAGOVESCENSK 20.2.23” reverse on registered commercial cover to Hamburg with arrival mark. The cover with transportation creased, otherwise fine

“SHANGHAI POST OFFICE 15 I 1900” large cds (T&S type 1), two fine strikes on “KITAI” 1 k., 2 k., 7 k. and 10 k. to reverse of registered envelope to Germany with transit cds “HONG KONG” and arrival cds “HAGEN 17. 2. 00”, repeated on front with red registration label in English language “I(mperial).R(ussian).P(ost).O(ffice) / Shanghai, China. N°4 R”, trace of one adhesive taken off probably before sending (as the franking pays the correct rate), very fine. A rare use of the registration label and attractive early mail from the Russian Post Office at Treaty Port of Shanghai

“CHEEFOO 20 IX (18)99” large cds (T&S Type 1, Gregorian calendar), superb strike on “KITAI” 10 k. horizontal pair with adjacent framed “R Tchéfou, Chine N°. 254” to registered envelope to Austria, re-addressed to Bohemia, reverse transit Russian cds “SHANGHAI 10 SEP. 1899” (T&S Type 2, Julian calendar), “HONG KONG SP 29 99” and arrival cds, endorsed on back flap “Imperial Russian Post Master”, very fine. A remarkable cover, probably the earliest registered mail from the Russian Post Office at the Treaty Port of Cheefoo (opened 1896) and an extremely scarce registration mark 

1889, Russia Coat of Arms 1 kop. yellow-orange tied by cds. “OSCH FERGHANA OBL. 2 XI 19-02” to 3 kop. postal stationery card to Freiburg, transit “MOSCOW 11 XI 19-02” and arrival cds. “FREIBURG 27.11.02”, the card written in Kashgar (Sinkiang) and in all probability transmitted from the Russian Consular Post Office via Pamir to the border, very fine. An appealing and rare item, being one of the earliest outgoing Russian mail sent from Sinkiang 

1865, 10 pa. brown/blue, fresh colour and good margins all around, 1845, Sperati forgery, fine, signed A. Diena and certificate Mikulski (1998)

1872, 5 kop. blue on horizontally laid paper and 1879 1 kop. black on orange on vertically laid paper, tied by light ALEKSANDRETA c.d.s. (Tchilinghirian fig. 200) in violet, an information strike alongside. On reverse Turkey Duloz 1 pi. yellow and Due 2 pi. brown misperforated at foot paying the journey to Aleppo, tied by all Latin "ALEP TURQUIE" c.d.s. in black. A fine combination cover
