1840/60 (ca.), Harnden Express postal history collection, , neatly-written up on pages, over twenty items beginning with a letter from William F. Harnden to the President of the Norwich and Worcester Railroad (ex Burrus), followed by a range of desirable pieces, including a rare 1847 entire to Russia (Wibourg) showing framed “POSTAGE PAID / TO DESTINATION / BY / HARNDEN & CO / OF / LIVERPOOL”, circular “PAID / H. & Co”, and reverse with “FORWARDED BY / HARNDEN & CO / BOSTON”, 1840 folded letter with “FORWARDED FROM / HARNDEN’S / PACKAGE EXPRESS & FOREIGN / LETTER OFFICE” (Boston), 1840 transatlantic to the United Kingdom with circular “FORWARDED BY / HARNDEN’S EXPRESS / FROM / BOSTON”, 1842 Havana to London forwarded via New York and Boston, 1866 Harper’s Ferry receipt, various types of “HARNDEN EXPRESS” and “HARNDEN NEW YORK AND SOUTHERN EXPRESS” envelopes, full-rigged ship illustrated “FORWARDED BY / HARNDEN & CO / NO 20 WATER ST / LIVERPOOL” oval on two folded covers, four scarce labels from Cincinnati (white), Wall Street (blue), Savannah (orange) and Baltimore (orange), concluding with embossed Livingston & Co “Late Harnden Express Forwarder” envelope with embossed illustration on flap, transatlantic letters carried via the Acadia, Columbia, Caledonia, Britannia, etc, condition varies, some items with faults, but an important assembly of scarce material recounting the history of this pioneering independent express company.

1848/60 (ca.), Eastern Express Companies, just over twenty items, written-up on pages, noting Adams Express Company, New York, two stampless covers with different embossed corner cards; Bryant & Spear’s / Penobscot Express, Boston, green label on cover to Maine; rare “Forwarded by / Prince’s / Boston & Portland / Express” label in red on folded cover (untied, vertical crease); Wells & Co’s Express, with 1848 entire from Albany to Buffalo, 1849 cover from Buffalo to New York with yellow “Wells & Co’s” label, 1850 entire from Albany to New York with pink label, small group of receipts for payment showing the partners, offices, agencies, etc; Livingston, Wells & Co Express group with 1854 entire from Paris to Massachusetts forwarded with blue cachet, c. 1855 envelope with cachet of Paris agency forwarded to New York; Wells, American Express Co. covers with yellow “Buffalo, Albany & New York” label, “St. Johnsville” in red, “Albany” in green, varying condition, some covers and labels with faults, crease, etc, but a fascinating group to continue further study of this popular field.   

1860/1930, over 100 covers, postcards & stationerys, including early issues, blue and interesting cancellations, bisects, registered mail, many usages to Europe, Canal Zone, some different.

1865/1960, ca. 160 covers incl. many airmail covers, cards with better picture postcards and postal stationeries, with u.o. patriotic cover “The Union Forever" with 3 c., registered covers, many postal stationeries with additional frankings and advertising covers and cards. In addtion some modern mint never hinged and used stamps ex 1983/94 with sheets and express stamps inkl. booklet 1983, mostly fine

1878/1995, about 500-600 covers, with the focus on unused and used postal stationery envelops, in the beginning some early and better airmail and Zeppelin-mail, including varieties, in six big binders

1880/2014 (ca.), large accumulation of over 750 covers, incl. Official Mail and Canal Zone, together with a large group of over 900 FDC from 1937 to 1987, some occasional faults, mostly in fine and fresh condition, neatly housed in 17 albums

1920/1980, X-Mas, Charity and Welfare, large and interesting accumulation with thousands of cinderella-stamps, comprising christmas-seals, various welfare funding stamps for children, handicapped persons, anti-tuberculosis stamps and further items. Many complete sheets. In addition several catalogs and price lists for christmas-seals.

1904/78, very interesting and substantial unused and used collection with covers, starting with MI.-Nr. 1-3 unused and on cover, Mi.-Nr. 2 and 3 each on cover, Mi-.Nr. 4-8 unused and used, Mi.-Nr. 29-37, 54-68 unused, 1912/16 2c. inverted center, Unissued I-VII, many multiples including plate-numbers, overprint types and varities like Mi.-Nr. 59 as “tete-beche” pair with right stamp showing inverted “CANAL”, Specimen, booklet panes, different perforations, many varities throughout, also Officials and Postage Due, cards and covers, postal stationery including Cordoba 2 c. with variety “Vignette & CANAL ZONE” only, and a few items incoming mail, all neatly written up on pages, some certificates and literature, mostly good condition

1956/58, four airmail covers to Germany with various combination frankings, all with departure cds. “HANOI”, mostly fine

1840/1976 (ca.), mostly unused and some used group incl. a collection of booklet panes starting with German Empire until federal republic of Germany, including better issues, further a mostly mint never hinged collection Croatia 1941-44 incl. better souvenir sheets, also SAFE Signoscope 2, in carton
